Lyon waited for their moment before overwhelming Wolfsburg.

Beaten 1-0 in the first leg, OL Lyonnes, thanks to their substitute players, secured a 4-0 victory after extra time against the German club Wolfsburg in the Champions League quarter-final, booking their spot in the semifinals.

In the semifinals, the Lyon players, aiming for a ninth title, will meet the defending champions, Arsenal, as they did in 2025. The other semifinal will see Barcelona face Bayern Munich.

In the first leg on March 24 in Germany, the Rhodaniennes suffered a loss (1-0) for the first time this season, after a dominant but fruitless performance. They conceded a goal scored by Lineth Beerensteyn on a deflected shot by Damaris Egurrola in the 14th minute.

This time, American Lily Yohannes gave Lyon the lead with a shot deflected by Janina Minge (16th).

The breakthrough came from Lyon’s substitutes

But it took extra time for the Lyon players to make the difference with their substitute players.

After a goal by Marie-Antoinette Katoto, disallowed for offside by Vicky Becho (99th), Daelle Melchie Dumornay made it 2-0 from a corner played by Selma Bacha after VAR review (102nd), before Egurrola headed in another corner from Bacha (3-0, 105th).

Katoto and Dumornay came on in the 69th minute, along with Tabitha Chawinga, who added a fourth goal on a counterattack (4-0, 120th). Egurrola had replaced Lindsay Heaps in the 82nd minute.

Like in the first leg, OL Lyonnes dominated their limited opponent. But the players once again showed incredible inaccuracy and a lack of offensive strength that could prove to be a real disadvantage against Arsenal in the semifinals.

In the end, Lyon’s dominance was evident with 39 shots (9 on target) to 6, and 19 corners to 2.

Goalkeeper Stina Johannes performed well, but she truly stood out only against Yohannes (21st), Kadidiatou Diani (26th), and on two attempts from Bacha, including a very good free kick at the end of regulation time (56th, 85th).
