Lyon waited for their moment before breaking Wolfsburg. Beaten 1-0 in the first leg, OL Lyonnes, thanks to their substitute players, won 4-0 after extra time against the German club Wolfsburg in the Women’s Champions League quarter-final, securing their spot in the semifinals.
In the semifinals, Lyon, aiming for their ninth title, will face defending champions Arsenal, just like in 2025. The other semifinal will feature Barcelona against German side Bayern Munich.
In the first leg on March 24 in Germany, Lyon suffered their first defeat of the season after conceding a goal to Lineth Beerensteyn in the 14th minute. This time, American Lily Yohannes gave Lyon the lead with a deflected shot in the 16th minute.
The breakthrough for Lyon came from their substitute players. After a goal by Marie-Antoinette Katoto was disallowed for offside, Daelle Melchie Dumornay scored from a corner to make it 2-0, followed by a header from Egurrola to make it 3-0.
Katoto and Dumornay came on in the 69th minute, along with Tabitha Chawinga who scored the fourth goal. Despite dominating the opponent, Lyon’s players were once again imprecise and showed weaknesses in their attack.
Overall, Lyon’s dominance was evident with 39 shots (9 on target) compared to 6, and 19 corners to 2. Goalkeeper Stina Johannes put in a good performance, especially against Yohannes, Diani, and Bacha’s attempts.
