Emmanuel Macron believes that forcibly “liberating” the Strait of Hormuz, blocked since the early hours of the conflict by the Revolutionary Guards, would be “unrealistic.”
Currently in Seoul, South Korea, on Thursday, April 2, Emmanuel Macron said at a press briefing that attempting to “liberate” the Strait of Hormuz through a military operation would be “unrealistic.”
For several days, US President Donald Trump has been pushing for France to intervene in the blockade of this strategic maritime passage, blocked since the early hours of the conflict by the Revolutionary Guards.
“Too much talk, and it’s all over the place”
Emmanuel Macron also lamented that the American president says “the opposite every day” of what he said the day before. “There is too much talk, and it’s all over the place. We all need stability, calm, a return to peace, it’s not a show!” declared the French president.
Regarding NATO and the conflict in the Middle East, “we need to be serious, and when we want to be serious, we don’t say the opposite every day of what we said the day before,” added the head of state.
Emmanuel Macron calls for a ceasefire
He also once again called for negotiations and a ceasefire with Iran, emphasizing that “a targeted military action, even over a few weeks, does not solve the issue of Iranian nuclear power in the long run.”
“Without a diplomatic and technical negotiation framework, the situation could deteriorate again in a few months or years. Only through in-depth negotiations, an agreement (…) can we ensure long-term follow-up and preserve peace and stability for all,” he continued.
