After two “presidential” terms within the Armagnac Adour community of communes, Michel Petit is stepping down. Let’s take a look back at his three terms within the community, including two as president.
Michel Petit: Overall, I have a rather positive assessment and have witnessed the evolution of this territory, where municipalities have transferred many competences to us. Throughout these two terms, my goals have always been to live well and better in this territory. Living better means acting on aging well, and the main goals of the social project have been achieved; living well means developing everything related to “living,” such as roads and IT infrastructure, while not forgetting the numerous renovations in the child-youth sector. I thank each member of the board for their good collaboration, with a special thanks to Christophe, the 1st vice-president, and Christian in charge of finances.
One particular achievement that holds a special place in my heart is having successfully implemented a true social policy: a territory that has taken care of individuals, from young children to the elderly, including a new nursing home, a social service center, and a social gathering place; I have always kept an eye on all these populations facing social difficulties.
The most challenging realization to implement is undoubtedly road infrastructure, as it is always very frustrating for our mayor colleagues; there are never enough resources, but prices have increased so much that we can no longer meet the funding requirements.
If I have two areas of expertise that I would have liked to work on more in another term, it would be sports management, including aquatic facilities, and cultural management with libraries: these are my major regrets for these services that are meant to serve beyond the municipality in the region.
After 25 years of municipal life, including three terms as mayor of Saint-Mont, and 18 years of community life, including two terms as president, I have always been involved in associations. Involved in the social sector, I am also treasurer of the Galerie Bleue Plaimont and an Erasmus expert-evaluator. I am also a grandfather of two grandchildren living in New Caledonia, where I spend two months a year.
