Through our early adopter and development partner programs, universities and research organizations are helping shape Web of Science Research Intelligence with ongoing feedback, collaboration, and real-world use cases. Great research technology starts with the research community.

From the earliest stages of development, Clarivate has worked closely with universities and research organizations around the world to shape Web of Science Research Intelligence, an AI-native solution designed to help institutions strengthen research strategy, identify funding opportunities, and demonstrate the broader societal impact of their work. By combining trusted data across publications, funding, patents, and other research outputs with responsible AI, Web of Science Research Intelligence provides a unified, evidence-based view of institutional research performance.

As we prepare for the general availability launch of Web of Science Research Intelligence, we’re reflecting on how collaboration with the research community has helped guide the platform’s development, and how that partnership continues to shape its future. Since the partner release in August 2025, 47 institutions across 20 countries have joined the early adopter program, representing more than 300 users across the higher education research ecosystem.

A global community shaping the platform Participants in the early adopter program come from across the institution, including research office leaders, academic librarians, institutional leadership, and faculty. This diversity helps ensure that Web of Science Research Intelligence reflects the needs of the entire research ecosystem, not just a single role or department. For many institutions, participating in the program offers an opportunity to explore how a unified research intelligence platform can support their long-term research strategy.

“We chose to become early adopters because we believe the innovative potential of Web of Science Research Intelligence can enhance our research management capabilities and streamline our workflows.”

Collaborating through the early adopter and development partner programs Through the early adopter and development partner programs, we work closely with institutions to iteratively develop and refine Web of Science Research Intelligence. Our partners share feedback through a range of engagement channels, including focus groups, surveys, product update meetings, regional group discussions, and one-on-one feedback sessions directly with the product team. These conversations help our product teams understand real institutional workflows and prioritize specific functionality and capabilities that support institutional research strategy, funding discovery, and impact analysis. They also create opportunities for participating institutions to connect with peers across the global research community and share perspectives on research strategy and evaluation

Feedback from our early adopters and development partners continues to shape how we evolve key areas of the platform. Partners have emphasized that responsible AI should prioritize accuracy, transparency, and user control, especially in research evaluation and strategy contexts. In response, we are continuing to refine how AI-driven insights are presented by making underlying data and search strategy more visible, so users can better understand how questions are interpreted, how results are generated, and how to analyze those results.

Partners have also highlighted the limitations of relying on metrics alone to capture research impact. This feedback is guiding how we develop capabilities that support more narrative-based approaches to understanding and communicating societal impact, helping institutions tell a more complete story of their research.

This iterative approach allows the platform to evolve based on real-world use cases across the research lifecycle, while giving participating institutions the opportunity to explore how capabilities such as responsible AI can support research strategy and analysis.

“Macquarie wants to remain at the forefront of next-generation technology and Web of Science is a source we trust. We recognized significant efficiency gains from using the advanced AI Web of Science Research Intelligence solution to augment existing research reporting processes. The solution provides access to new data and enables deeper analysis, with many beneficial use cases.”

Supporting research strategy across the institution Our early adopter and development partner program members represent a wide range of roles across the research ecosystem, each using Web of Science Research Intelligence to support shared institutional priorities through trusted data and AI-powered insights:

– Research offices can identify institutional strengths, benchmark performance, identify funding opportunities, and inform strategic planning and research investment decisions. – Other institutional leaders, including deans and directors of strategy, planning, and partnerships, can identify emerging research areas, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, and explore opportunities for industry partnerships. – Researchers can discover funding opportunities, find collaborators, and better understand and communicate the impact of their work. – Librarians can support research assessment, evaluate faculty and departmental performance, and deliver data-driven insights across the institution.

For institutions seeking to strengthen research management capabilities, bringing these insights together within a single platform is a key advantage.

“We decided to become an early adopter of Web of Science Research Intelligence to strengthen our analytical capabilities and support research management. The platform provides an integrated framework to systematically monitor and assess research performance and scientific impact across the organization.”

Looking ahead With the upcoming general availability launch of Web of Science Research Intelligence, collaboration with the research community will remain central to its evolution. The insights and expertise of our early adopters and development partners continue to shape the platform’s development, helping ensure that it reflects the real needs of institutions navigating an increasingly complex research landscape.

Together with our development partners and early adopters, we are building a new generation of research intelligence – one designed not only to analyze research, but to help institutions increase funding success, strengthen research strategy, and demonstrate real-world impact.
