In Missouri, two women will face prosecution for making a false alert about the disappearance of a 5-year-old girl, according to the teams at the American channel ABC.
On Monday, the St. Louis police in Missouri received concerning information. A child had reportedly been left unattended in an abandoned vehicle in the city of Affton. Shortly after, the two women claimed that the vehicle had been stolen, with the young girl inside.
The police triggered an “amber alert” and began searching for the vehicle and its alleged passenger. Two hours after the search began, the vehicle was found without a child inside.
Intrigued, the officers went back to talk to the two women who made the call and started to doubt the existence of the abandoned child. The women claimed that the child was the daughter of one of their sisters, but they could not provide a photo or any clothing belonging to the child.
According to the police investigation, the only real element of this case was the theft of the car belonging to the two young women, which was recovered by the police. During a press conference, Colonel Jerry Lohr explained that one possible explanation was that the two women had fabricated this story so that the police would find their stolen car, without which a routine theft case would likely have been ignored.
However, he announced that the St. Louis Police Department will sue the two women for false statements and for wasting the police’s time and resources.
