TRIBUNE –
The CNC is facing sharp criticism targeting the presence of a streamer judged to be biased in a commission awarding grants to content creators. But we must not discredit an indispensable institution in the cinema industry, argues the former general director of the CNC.
Inspector General of Finance, Christophe Tardieu was the general director of the CNC from 2014 to 2019.
Some accuse the French cinema of being endogamous, of abusing political correctness, of being self-centered, or even too subsidized. Maybe. But its success is undeniable and the French public flock to the largest and most modern cinema complex in Europe to see both American blockbusters and more demanding films, from Avatar to Marsupilami, from Nuremberg to Bojarski Affair or Les Rayons et les Ombres.
The French cinema is the third largest in the world after the United States and India. Along with audiovisual media, it represents several hundred thousand direct jobs in France (studio technicians, post-production, sets, special and visual effects, digital, etc.). It is a dense industrial fabric, spread throughout the territory, generating an economic activity with immediate local repercussions (hospitality, transportation, catering, etc.).
