BLITAR – The DPP PDIP emphasized the principle of a free and active foreign policy in response to the political situation in the Middle East, as stipulated in the 1945 Constitution.

The Secretary-General of DPP PDI Perjuangan, Hasto Kristiyanto, stated on Sunday that the nation’s founders, especially Bung Karno (the first President of Indonesia, Soekarno) and Bung Hatta (the first Vice President of Indonesia, Mohammad Hatta), had laid good foundations.

“Indonesian independence is a sign of freedom for colonized peoples in Asia and Africa. That’s why independence, as the right of all nations, must be defended and cannot be revoked,” he said in Blitar, as reported by Antara.

Hasto also added during a visit to Bung Karno’s tomb in Blitar that independence should not be contradicted by the actions of a superpower against a sovereign state.

According to him, these are the principles of a free and active foreign policy, so that the Indonesian government is strongly supported by the mission of upholding the 1945 Constitution.

The president, he said, has also been in contact with President Prabowo Subianto, discussing national issues and geopolitical problems. The conclusions of these discussions have also been explained, with the important point being that the nation’s leaders must unite.

Furthermore, Megawati, he added, also shared her experience with President Prabowo. Earlier, Megawati had also been invited, along with other country leaders, to meet, but at that time, President Prabowo had other events outside the region.

PDIP, he said, also has firmer suggestions on Indonesia’s foreign policy stance.

Hasto explained that Indonesian independence aimed to build global brotherhood, so as a nation enduring oppression, the spirit of independence was for all nations.

“The occupation of the world must therefore be abolished as it is not in line with the principles of humanity and justice. This is what all presidents must pursue,” Hasto declared.

He added that Bung Karno’s leadership in the struggle for national independence is an example, and it is hoped that it continues in free and active foreign policy.

Meanwhile, the President of DPP PDIP Megawati Soekarnoputri visited her father Bung Karno’s tomb in the city of Blitar. Megawati was accompanied by her family and senior party members.

During the visit, the group prayed together and laid flowers. Once done, the group continued their journey.
