As a child in a candy store. After experiencing his first selection with the French team during the victory against Brazil on Thursday (2-1), Maxence Lacroix gave an interview to RMC Sports. The 25-year-old central defender, who had never been called up to the U21s, doesn’t hide that he finds it hard to believe what is happening to him: “It was like a dream come true. Every football player, when he is young, dreams of playing this type of match. I had a lot of fun. As a bonus, we have the victory, so it’s wonderful.” Called up following William Saliba’s withdrawal, the Crystal Palace player then went on to recount his first steps with the group: “I was very well received by everyone. I knew some of them, so it was easier, of course. But it’s really a very good group. So it’s easy to fit in when everyone welcomes you so well.”

Starting against Colombia?

Substituted in the 58th minute against Colombia after Dayot Upamecano received a red card, who has since returned home due to his suspension, Lacroix has a chance to start on Sunday against Colombia. The Sochaux-trained central defender hopes to continue to earn minutes in the French team: “I adapt, I think the coach will make choices. In any case, I am ready. I am here to play and I want to show that I have the level. Also prove that I have something to offer to this wonderful group. We’ll see what happens against Colombia.”

To be continued.
