In a recent interview with the Middle East News Agency (MENA), the Egyptian Ambassador to Kenya, Hatem Yousri, emphasized the ongoing qualitative transformation in Egypt’s foreign policy. This shift aligns with the directives of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates, Badr Abdel-Ati.

Yousri highlighted the strategic balance in diplomatic relations and the role of diplomacy in development, aiming to maximize mutual interests between Egypt and other countries worldwide. He pointed out that Egypt’s diplomatic efforts focus on economic benefits and strategic partnerships, emphasizing the importance of maintaining Egypt’s strategic interests.

During his participation in the COMESA Investment Forum in Nairobi from March 24 to 27, Yousri emphasized Egypt’s active role in economic and strategic partnerships, particularly with Kenya. He referred to the strong historical and strategic ties between the two countries as a model of integrated African partnerships, covering political, economic, cultural, and sports cooperation.

Regarding economic relations with Kenya, Yousri emphasized their importance for Egypt’s national security and strategic interests. He described Kenya as a key strategic partner for achieving mutual benefits and common interests, showcasing active cooperation in various sectors.

Yousri highlighted Egypt’s significant presence at the COMESA Investment Forum, noting the participation of an Egyptian delegation comprising officials, parliamentarians, and over 18 entrepreneurs. This delegation aims to strengthen Egyptian exports and investments in Kenya.

Furthermore, Yousri pointed out Kenya’s strategic position in East Africa, highlighting its role as a crucial gateway for landlocked countries in the region. He underlined Egypt’s commitment to enhancing current economic relations with Kenya, leveraging opportunities in sectors like healthcare, pharmaceuticals, construction, energy, and capacity-building.

The ambassador also mentioned Egypt’s role in training and skill development in Kenya across various sectors. He outlined plans to deepen commercial and investment presence in Kenya, focusing on sectors like healthcare, pharmaceuticals, construction, energy, and capacity-building.

Yousri emphasized the embassy’s pivotal role in supporting Egyptian investors and businessmen exploring investment opportunities in Kenya. He stressed the importance of continuous communication between the business communities of both countries to facilitate economic partnerships.

Lastly, Yousri mentioned the trade volume between Egypt and Kenya, highlighting recent figures and the focus areas of bilateral trade. He noted Egypt’s exports to Kenya primarily include food products, chemicals, construction materials, and equipment, while Kenyan imports consist mainly of tea and certain agricultural produce.
