Asked about the best atmosphere in France, Olympique de Marseille was spontaneously mentioned by Jules Koundé, currently playing for FC Barcelona. “The best atmosphere in France where I’ve played? Really, it’s Marseille,” he stated during this interview broadcast on Twitch.

The international defender, trained at Girondins de Bordeaux, highlighted the unique atmosphere of the Vélodrome Stadium, regularly praised for its intensity. This statement aligns with a widely shared consensus in Ligue 1, where the Marseille stadium is often considered a reference in terms of popular fervor.

An opinion that follows in continuity

This positioning of Jules Koundé is not new. Already in September 2020, he stated in an interview with ASFoot: “In France, it won’t please the Bordelais, but the Vélodrome is something. I think we all agree on that, it’s special.”

More recently, Pierre Sage, the coach of RC Lens, also mentioned the atmosphere of the Vélodrome, ranking it in his top 3 in France last week. A new echo that confirms the place of the Marseille venue in the landscape of French football.

Over the seasons, OM and its fans continue to establish themselves as a reference, both for players and observers of the championship.
