Giorgia Meloni suffered a heavy setback with the rejection, this Monday, of a judicial reform project she had chosen to submit to a referendum. The consultation, which started the day before, mobilized 58% of Italian voters. According to a count revealed at the end of the afternoon by the SWG institute, the “no” vote won with 53.67% of the votes. This result marks the failure of an institutional reform that she had placed at the heart of her electoral program. Approaching the vote, the Council President had ruled out resigning in case of a “no” victory. But this decisive defeat puts her in a more delicate situation than she had anticipated.
