In detail, four out of ten French people (41%) declared that the current geopolitical situation in the Middle East could change their vacation plans this spring or summer, according to a survey conducted by Ifop from March 5 to 16 on over 6,300 people.
Among them, 7% of the respondents indicated that they would give up traveling to the region (United Arab Emirates, but also Egypt, Turkey, Lebanon, etc.).
And 6% of them said they would prefer not to transit through this area to reach another destination, as the region hosts several important airport hubs such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates), and Doha (Qatar). 7% said they would choose a completely different destination. Additionally, 21% stated their preference to visit France.
However, the majority of respondents (59%) said that the conflict would not change their plans in general. Among them, 51% were not planning to travel this summer anyway, and 8% still intend to visit a country in the Middle East.
Out of the respondents planning to travel for the summer holidays (49% of the sample surveyed), 27% said they would adjust their plans due to the conflict.
In detail, 7% stated that the geopolitical situation would lead them to cancel one or more reservations. 8% said they would modify their reservations, and 12% announced that they would postpone their reservations “waiting for more clarity.”
However, 55% of the respondents said they would not change their schedule, and 18% were undecided.
“These developments could represent a short-term opportunity for French destinations with spring attractiveness potential,” stated the Alliance France Tourisme, a think tank that brings together companies such as Accor, Air France, SNCF Connect, and la Compagnie des Alpes.
