French midfielder Youssouf Fofana, who has been performing well for AC Milan since the start of the season, has conveyed a message to Didier Deschamps.
Despite his absence from the French team since October 2024, Fofana remains focused on the future. Speaking about his 25 caps for France, he said, “The team.”
“At first, I felt a bit bad, wondering why I wasn’t called up. Then, watching the matches, I told myself: OK Youssouf, there are other midfielders just as talented. Whether you are in the team or not, the French team achieves the same results. So, you have to work and be patient,” the former Monégasque player said.
Fofana has set his sights on the 2026 World Cup, emphasizing the importance of his club performances for a potential return to the national team.
“I have the French passport and I am a professional footballer. Yes, I am eligible, and yes, I really want to go! I will need to obtain the visa. Can I allow myself to believe in it? I must finish the season better than I started. If the year ended now and I was not called up, I wouldn’t panic. Some players have shone during the qualifications,” Fofana expressed.
