The Gers Chamber of Agriculture met in Pavie on Friday, March 6, to present positive accounts for the year 2025. Elected officials also announced the organization of the first “Organic Agriculture Assembly.” Several motions, brought by various unions, were also voted on during the meeting.

Unusual for the Gers Chamber of Agriculture, the session was held at the Chamber of Commerce and Crafts in Pavie. One year after his election as president, Lionel Candelon-Bonnemaison presided over the session in front of consular elected officials, farmers, and local officials. Various motions presented by different unions — emergency funds to support the agricultural sector, input costs, implementation of digital phytosanitary registry, and regulation of wildlife in the fight against swine fever — were also voted on.

“The financial situation has significantly improved in 2025,” said Jean-Charles Gleize. “I am not particularly worried about the chamber. We are closely monitoring the issue of the Mons domain, the judicial liquidation, particularly regarding the financial impact it may have.”

Announcement was made regarding the upcoming “Organic Agriculture Assembly” to be held in the department in September. Despite challenges such as climate variability, pests, and water scarcity, bio consumption is increasing. The assembly aims to collectively develop a project involving all stakeholders in the organic industry.

During the session, concerns arose about the international context. The increase in the price of non-road diesel (GNR) due to the Iran conflict is a worry for farmers. Philippe Dupouy, president of the Department, reiterated his opposition to the free-trade agreement with Mercosur countries, despite the European Court of Justice’s involvement. The decision was criticized as undemocratic, with a commitment to continue fighting to protect local agriculture.
