SadaNews – Official media reported today, Saturday, that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un expressed support for China’s efforts to build a “multipolar world” and called for deeper relations between the two traditional allies during a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
During the meeting that took place on Friday, Kim stated that his government would fully support Chinese efforts for territorial integrity based on the “One China principle”, referring to Beijing’s official position that Taiwan is an integral part of Chinese territory, according to the North Korean central news agency.
The North Korean central news agency reported that Kim also clarified North Korea’s position on regional and international issues of “mutual interest”, asserting that the continued development of relations between the two countries has become increasingly important in the current geopolitical environment.
Wang, who is on a two-day visit to North Korea, stated that the relations between the two countries are entering a “new phase” following last year’s summit between Kim and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Embracing the ideas of a “new Cold War” and a “multipolar world”, Kim has sought to break out of international isolation and pursue a more assertive foreign policy by expanding relations with governments at odds with the United States.
