“Please, do everything in your power before this maniac turns the region into a ball of fire,” wrote Mohamed el-Baradei on X in Arabic.
The Nobel Peace Prize laureate and former Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Mohamed el-Baradei called on the international community to stop the US President Donald Trump, whom he described as “crazy” and accused of wanting to turn the Middle East “into a ball of fire” on Sunday, April 5.
“To the Gulf governments: once again, please, do everything in your power before this maniac turns the region into a ball of fire,” Mr. el-Baradei wrote on X in Arabic.
A new ultimatum given by Donald Trump
In another post in English on the same social network, the former head of the IAEA reproduced the message in which Donald Trump gave Iran until Monday to reach an agreement or reopen the strategic Strait of Hormuz or face “unleashing hell.”
“Is there nothing that can be done to stop this madness?!” Mr. el-Baradei commented, addressing the United Nations, the Chinese and Russian governments, the European Council, and French President Emmanuel Macron.
Mohamed el-Baradei, an 83-year-old former Egyptian statesman, headed the IAEA from 1997 to 2009, during which he led numerous crucial negotiations with Iran on its nuclear program. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2005 jointly with his organization for their efforts towards peaceful use of atomic energy.
