French President Emmanuel Macron embarked on a visit to Japan on Tuesday, March 31, 2026 to enhance Franco-Japanese partnerships in civil nuclear power, technological innovation, and space.

Other aspects of the economy will also be discussed as many business leaders accompany the president on this fourth trip to the archipelago. Including a businessman from Manche.

Saint James Well-Established in Japan

Luc Lesénécal, President of Saint James, a company specializing in marine clothing, will be part of the delegation. A natural choice for the CEO of the south-Manche company that is well-established in the land of the rising sun with ten boutiques, about a hundred points of sale, and a dedicated Japanese website.

“This invitation is particularly linked to the success of the Osaka 2025 World Exposition, where Saint James had the opportunity to manage the French Pavilion store in collaboration with Arteum, showcasing French-made products,” commented Luc Lesénécal on LinkedIn before heading to Japan. “It also follows the accompaniment, last summer, of a delegation of 12 Normandy companies with excellent craftsmanship to Japan.”

“Japan is a demanding partner with whom we share a common culture of detail, quality, and precision. It is precisely in this field that French expertise has its rightful place.”

The Manche CEO, awarded the Legion of Honor by President Macron in October 2023, intends to once again promote the skills of the French economy during this official trip, as one of the flag bearers through his role as president of the French Expertise Institute.

“Showcasing France Internationally”

“This trip is an opportunity to express a strong belief: our companies are not only meant to produce in France but also to shine internationally,” he asserts.

“Supporting the export of quality craftsmanship is supporting our companies in their development, enhancing a certain idea of quality and manufacturing, as well as strengthening the attractiveness of our industry. In an increasingly competitive environment, this support is essential.”
