According to the Washington Post, the United States is preparing for operations in Iran. This revelation comes as an American amphibious assault ship has been deployed in the Middle East.

The Pentagon is gearing up for several weeks of operations on the ground in Iran, as reported by the Washington Post on Saturday, citing American officials, at a time when the United States is bolstering its posture in the Middle East.

Such operations would not involve a large-scale invasion of Iran, American officials emphasized on condition of anonymity. Instead, they would entail raids on Iranian territory by special forces members and other soldiers.

3,500 new soldiers deployed According to the Washington Post, it was unclear on Saturday whether Donald Trump would approve all, some, or none of the Pentagon’s plans. The information from the American capital’s newspaper comes as the United States’ position in the Middle East conflict is reinforced by the arrival of the amphibious assault ship Tripoli in the region, announced by the US military on Saturday.

The aircraft carrier leads a naval group that includes “about 3,500” sailors and Marines, according to the US Centcom command.

The announcement of the ship’s arrival comes shortly after statements by US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, who said on Friday that the United States could achieve its goals in Iran without deploying ground troops.

But Donald Trump has been ambiguous about this possibility for weeks, and several American media outlets have reported in recent days that the US president is considering sending at least 10,000 troops to the Middle East soon.
