At the Haguenau industry fair on Friday, March 27, a human-like robot dances on the central stage. Meanwhile, outside, the deployment of the front crossing vehicle (EFA), a floating military bridge several meters long once deployed, steals the show.

This event showcases the growing connection between industry and the armed forces, influenced by rearmament policies. According to Jean-Michel Staerlé, the president of the Network of Innovative Industrialists of North Alsace (Résilian), this was not a priority a few years ago. The military approached Résilian to enhance its subcontracting capabilities.

One notable beneficiary of this trend is the Cefa SME from Soultz-Sous-Forêts, a long-time supplier to the military. The company recently secured significant contracts for demining and crossing equipment.

The expanding market share with the armed forces presents new opportunities for diversification. Companies like Acea in Gundershoffen are exploring potential contracts, indicating a positive trajectory in the industry.

Innovative technologies are also highlighted at the fair, with startups like Geolith and Eifhytec showcasing advancements in lithium extraction and hydrogen compressors. These initiatives reflect a shift towards more sustainable and efficient industrial practices.

Matteo Griveau, a research and development engineer, envisions establishing a facility in Haguenau to further develop these technologies. Additionally, companies like Silicéco are innovating in cold transformation and recycling of industrial waste into jewelry components.

The “Dive into the heart of the industry” fair continues at the Halle aux houblons in Haguenau on Saturday, March 28, from 10 am to 5 pm, with free entry.
