War in the Middle East: Iran denies opening negotiations with the United States

After threatening Iran with strikes on its energy installations if the Strait of Hormuz was not reopened, then announcing that negotiations were underway, the United States is proposing a peace plan between the two countries. On March 25, 2026, Iran declares that “non-hostile ships” can pass through the Strait of Hormuz. However, despite these signs of easing tensions, in a video message published on the same day, the spokesperson for Iran’s main military command, Ebrahim Zolfaghari, dashes American hopes of negotiations.

“Ebrahim Zolfaghari never directly mentions the United States, but the message is clear. Iran is playing hardball and refuses to yield. The United States are lying, he essentially says, it is us who hold the upper hand. Iran sees in the survival of its regime, in its ability to create chaos in global markets, a sign of victory for now.”

These developments come amidst ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran, with the latter maintaining a defiant stance in the face of diplomatic efforts. The situation remains fragile as both sides navigate a precarious path towards potential conflict or reconciliation.
