Brussels calls on European states to reduce their gas stocks

The European Commission has urged European states to reduce their gas filling target for next winter to alleviate pressure on prices skyrocketing due to the war in the Middle East.

Instead of filling their gas stocks to 90% for next winter, the usual required level, the EU is asking the Twenty-Seven to aim for a filling target of 80%, in order to “reassure market players”, according to a letter to the states from European Commissioner for Energy, Dan Jorgensen.

The United Arab Emirates has ordered the closure of an Iranian hospital in Dubai, according to three of its employees. Gulf countries have been regularly targeted by Iran in retaliation to the American-Israeli offensive.
