The fact of the day

The Hungarian Foreign Minister announced on Sunday that he would block the adoption of the 20th European package of sanctions against Russia due to the halt of Russian oil deliveries through the Druzhba pipeline.

“Tomorrow, it is planned that the meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council of Ministers will adopt the 20th sanctions package. We will block this decision,” Peter Szijjarto stated on Facebook. “As long as Ukrainians do not allow oil deliveries to Hungary, we will not authorize important decisions for them,” he added.

According to Ukraine, the Druzhba pipeline, which passes through its territory before delivering Russian oil to Slovakia and Hungary, was damaged on January 27 by Russian strikes in Brody.

The European Union (EU) proposed new sanctions against Russia at the beginning of February targeting the banking and energy sectors. This new package would be the 20th since the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022. New export and import bans to Russia are also proposed.
