J.D. Vance leaves Pakistan after failed negotiations with Iran
J.D. Vance, the American Vice President, has left Islamabad on Sunday after unsuccessful negotiations with Iran to end the war in the Middle East. His plane took off shortly after 4am (Paris time). Less than an hour earlier, he stated during a short press conference, “returning to the United States without reaching an agreement” after 21 hours of talks with Iran, mediated by Pakistan. He claimed to have made what he believes is a “final and best possible offer” to Iran. “We will see if the Iranians accept it,” he added, before quickly boarding his plane and leaving Pakistan.
Iran accuses the United States of “unreasonable demands”. The “unreasonable demands” of the United States caused the negotiations in Islamabad between Iranians and Americans to fail, the Iranian state television (Irib) announced on Sunday. “The Iranian delegation negotiated relentlessly and intensively for 21 hours to defend the national interests of the Iranian people. Despite various initiatives from their side, the unreasonable demands of the American side prevented the negotiations from progressing. The negotiations have therefore come to an end,” Irib wrote on Telegram.
Donald Trump, unhappy with Iran, announces that he will also block the Strait of Hormuz. Donald Trump has just posted two lengthy messages on his social network Truth. “IRAN IS NOT WILLING TO ABANDON ITS NUCLEAR AMBITIONS!” he exclaimed in capital letters. And he announced, “The US Navy, the best in the world, will begin the process of BLOCKING all ships attempting to enter or exit the Strait of Hormuz.” The American president also reiterated his threat to destroy Iranian energy infrastructure in the absence of an agreement. “I could destroy Iran in one day. I could destroy it in an hour,” declared the American president on Fox News, targeting “all their energy infrastructure, all their factories, all their power plants, which is significant.”
The Revolutionary Guards threaten to trap their enemies in a “deadly whirlwind” in the Strait of Hormuz. The Iranian Revolutionary Guards claimed to have “fully under control” the traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, threatening to trap their enemies there. “All traffic (…) is completely under the control of the armed forces,” declared the naval command of the Guards in a message published on X, after President Donald Trump announced an American naval blockade of the strait. “The enemy will find itself trapped in a deadly whirlwind in the strait if it makes a wrong move,” added the naval command, sharing a video showing ships in the crosshairs.
Trump threatens China with 50% tariffs if it militarily aids Iran. Donald Trump threatened China on Sunday if Beijing provided military assistance to Iran in the Middle East conflict. “If they get caught doing that, they will face 50% tariffs, which is staggering,” declared the American president on Fox News.
Vladimir Putin offers to mediate. Vladimir Putin stated on Sunday to Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian that he is willing to participate in mediating the conflict in the Middle East. During a phone call with his counterpart, the Russian head of state “emphasized that he was ready to continue facilitating the search for a political and diplomatic settlement of the conflict and to serve as a mediator in the efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace in the Middle East,” according to the Kremlin.
