Europlasma, an industrial group from Gironde, is preparing to turn an important page in its development. Engaged in the defense sector for the past few years, it is now in exclusive negotiations to sell its activities to a French industrial player. This decision marks a strategic repositioning for the company historically focused on environmental issues.
A rapid diversification towards armaments Originally specialized in industrial pollution and decarbonization, Europlasma has gradually made a mark in a completely different domain. Since 2021, the group has been acquiring industrial sites, including Forges de Tarbes, which have become essential in the production of large-caliber shells.
This shift has occurred in an international context marked by the war in Ukraine and the increasing demand for military equipment in Europe. The expertise developed at these sites quickly took on a strategic dimension, positioning Europlasma as a key industrial player, albeit a recent one, in the defense industry.
A high-stakes industrial divestment Today, the group seems to be returning to its fundamentals. Current discussions focus on the divestment of several defense-related assets, including Forges de Tarbes and Fonderie de Bretagne, which has recently shifted towards the production of military equipment.
The transaction could amount to approximately 150 million euros, signaling the strategic importance of these infrastructures. If finalized, this divestment is expected to be completed in the coming months, subject to the outcome of negotiations.
For Europlasma, this decision reflects a clear intention to refocus on its historical activities related to environmental innovation, while allowing other industrial players to meet the growing needs of the defense sector.
