The Pope Calls for Peace Amidst Iran-US Talks
The sovereign pontiff has called for peace, as Iranian and American officials are currently discussing a resolution to the war between them.
The Pope Léon XIV has denounced warmongers, urging billions of people worldwide to embrace peace and to “believe again in love, moderation, and good politics.” In one of his most vehement criticisms of the conflicts raging across the globe, particularly in the Middle East, the American pope declared that faith was necessary “to face together this dramatic moment in history.”
“Enough of idolatry of self and money! Enough of shows of force! Enough of war! True strength is shown in serving life,” declared the sovereign pontiff during a prayer vigil for peace at the Basilica of St. Peter in Rome.
Delivered in a measured tone, the remarks of the leader of the Catholic Church, which has 1.4 billion followers worldwide, constituted some of his sharpest criticisms to date regarding the wave of conflicts engulfing the planet.
“Dear brothers and sisters, there are certainly imperative responsibilities that fall on the leaders of nations. To them we cry out: Stop! It is time to make peace! Sit down at the table of dialogue and mediation, not at the table where rearmament is planned and deadly actions are decided!” the pope proclaimed.
As he has done in the past, the Chicago-native sovereign pontiff did not mention any political leaders by name and did not designate any specific countries.
