In France, Sebastien Lecornu Announces Electrification Measures. Ban on gas boilers, assistance for heavy electric vehicle users: Sebastien Lecornu presented on Friday initial measures aimed at “accelerating” electrification in transportation and housing to be less dependent on gas or oil, whose prices are soaring due to the war in the Middle East. He announced that the government would double its support for electrification uses from 5.5 billion to 10 billion euros per year. In the housing sector, the installation of gas heating will be banned from the “end of this year” in new constructions, including collective housing, and two million social housing units will no longer be heated with gas by 2050. For transportation, the government will help finance, starting in June, an additional 50,000 electric vehicles for social rental (social leasing) for “heavy users” affected by the surge in fuel prices, such as nursing assistants, nurses, and artisans.
