Several hours after the announcement of a ceasefire between Iran and the United States, several Gulf countries, including Kuwait, claim to have been targeted by Iranian strikes on Wednesday, April 8.

Kuwait stated on Wednesday, April 8, that it is facing a wave of Iranian attacks that have caused significant damage, after the ceasefire was announced between Iran and the United States.

“Since 8 a.m. (7 a.m. Paris time), Kuwaiti air defenses have been facing an intense wave of hostile and criminal attacks led by Iran,” the Kuwaiti army said in a statement, specifying that 28 drones had been detected. These attacks “have caused significant material damage to oil infrastructure, power plants, and desalination plants,” it added.

Attacks in Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates

These strikes on Kuwait come the day after a two-week ceasefire was agreed upon between the United States and Iran on Tuesday evening, just over an hour before Donald Trump’s ultimatum to destroy the Islamic Republic expired.

The US president assured he was ready to engage in a temporary truce if Tehran fully reopened the Strait of Hormuz. In response, Abbas Araghchi, Iranian Foreign Minister, confirmed in a statement that the strait would be reopened “in coordination with Iranian armed forces.”

Iranian authorities announced on Wednesday that talks will take place from Friday with Washington in Pakistan, a mediator in the Middle East conflict that began on February 28 and has resulted in thousands of deaths, mainly in Iran and Lebanon.

As a sign of the fragility of the agreement, several Gulf countries have claimed to be the target of Iranian strikes on Wednesday. In Bahrain, two people were injured in an Iranian drone attack, according to authorities, which occurred a few hours after the ceasefire took effect.

The United Arab Emirates also reported new Iranian attacks. “Air defenses are currently facing missile and drone attacks from Iran,” the Ministry of Defense said in a statement.
