He had promised hell, but has now negotiated a truce. Donald Trump hailed a “complete and total” victory on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, after the announcement of a two-week ceasefire with Iran. This truce includes an end to bombardments and reopens all ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. The Iranian regime claims that the United States has approved their plan, which includes lifting economic sanctions and the ability to continue enriching uranium.

These points will be discussed in negotiations that are set to begin on Friday in Pakistan. The neighboring country of Iran has been at the heart of negotiations for the past fifteen days and has emerged as a mediator due to its unique position and ability to engage with everyone.

Pakistan, as a nuclear power, holds considerable influence, surpassing that of Oman, which had previously played the role of intermediary. Islamabad maintains strong relationships with both Washington and Tehran. Pakistani authorities have cultivated a close relationship with Donald Trump, especially with his military chief and members of his administration who have business relationships in Pakistan.

Additionally, Pakistan does not host any American military bases, which strengthens its ties with the Iranian government. Approximately 15% of Pakistan’s population is Shia, making it the second largest Shia community in the world after Iran. Pakistan also has a defense agreement with Saudi Arabia, a key player in the region and a major US ally.

In recent days, Pakistani diplomacy has also aligned with China, as Donald Trump believes that China may have motivated Iran to negotiate.
