Without Nayef Aguerd, OM suffered their second consecutive defeat in Ligue 1.

Absent since the beginning of March, the 30-year-old Moroccan has been the least fragile center-back in the Marseille squad since the start of the season. While Nayef Aguerd has also made mistakes and was rather disappointing for several weeks, the level of the other defensive players – Benjamin Pavard, Leonardo Balerdi, Facundo Medina, or CJ Egan-Riley – clearly places him at the top of the defense.

According to the Stats Foot account, the importance of Nayef Aguerd at Olympique de Marseille is evident in the numbers: OM lost 50% of their Ligue 1 matches without him, which is 6 out of 12. And, with the number 21, it is much lower, with only 3 defeats in 16 matches.

Unlike Benjamin Pavard, Nayef Aguerd is not destined to leave OM: definitively transferred to the club in 2025 for 23 million euros, the international player is likely to stay in Marseille and will be a key player in the defense next season. This is certainly desirable.
