The Ukrainian army now includes a new powerful weapon which could be a turning point in the war against Russia. The 52nd separate artillery brigade has announced to be equipped with a variety of modern, both Ukrainian and Western weapons. Among them is one of the most powerful artillery systems in the world, thanks to the M110 203mm self-propelled howitzers in service within this brigade, according to Le Parisien.
The arrival of this cannon is part of a plan to strengthen combat capabilities and allow Ukraine to increase its long-range strike capabilities and support strategic operations on the front. “Our equipment includes the 2S22 Bohdana self-propelled gun, the RM-70 Vampire multiple rocket launcher systems, and the M110A 203mm,” the brigade stated.
Specifically, each system has its role. For example, the Ukrainian-made Bozhana self-propelled gun is used for precision strikes against strategic targets at long distances. The Czechoslovak system RM-70 Vampire is responsible for destroying enemy infantry units and military vehicles.
The M110, on the other hand, operates on a larger scale. It can hit fortified and high-value targets with superior penetrating power due to its 203mm caliber. Ukraine has not disclosed how it acquired these American howitzers, but it is likely that this delivery was part of the American and Western military aid since the beginning of the conflict in February 2022.
