The American army has used a new ballistic missile in the Middle East for the first time during the “Epic Fury” operation. In early March, the United States Central Command (Centcom) confirmed the use of the “Precision Strike Missile” (PrSM), or “precision strike missile,” according to TF1. “For the first time in history, long-range precision strike missiles (PrSM) were used in combat during Operation Epic Fury, offering an unparalleled depth strike capability,” wrote Centcom on X.
Developed by Lockheed Martin, the PrSM recently passed the “Milestone C” phase, validating its transition from development to production and operational deployment. The Ministry of Defense has also signed agreements with industry to accelerate its production as the conflict pushes Washington to use its munitions more intensively. This missile is launched from the Himars system and replaces the old ATACMS tactical missile.

With a range exceeding 400 kilometers – compared to 300 km for its predecessor – the PrSM represents, according to the American army, “a quantum leap in precision strike capabilities.” Future versions could extend this range up to 1,000 kilometers.
According to the New York Times, this missile reportedly hit a sports center in Lamerd, Iran, on February 28, the first day of the “Epic Fury” operation, resulting in 21 casualties. Last week, Lockheed Martin and the Pentagon announced a framework agreement to quadruple the production of the PrSM, without specifying the number of units to be built.
