In a latest move within the American military hierarchy, the dismissal of General Randy George, Chief of Staff of the Army, highlights a series of evictions orchestrated by the Trump administration since its return to power.
During the ongoing conflict in Iran, the Pentagon announced the departure of the American Army’s Chief of Staff, General Randy George, adding to the list of high-ranking officials dismissed by the Trump administration over the past year. Defense Minister Pete Hegseth obtained the immediate departure of General George.
This high-ranking officer “will step down from his position as the 41st Chief of Staff of the Army, with immediate effect,” wrote Sean Parnell, the Pentagon’s spokesperson, shortly after on the X platform, wishing him “a pleasant retirement,” without disclosing the reason for this sudden departure.
CBS News, which revealed the information, cited an anonymous American official stating that Pete Hegseth wanted to appoint someone in his place who could implement the vision of Donald Trump and his minister for the Army.
The potential politicization of the military has raised concerns among opposition Democrats, who fear that the Army may be drawn into political battles, traditionally more removed from partisan politics than other parts of the American government.
These recent dismissals, along with the departure of General Randy George, signal a trend among the highest ranks of the American military since Donald Trump’s return to power in January 2025.
