There will be a new trial in the case of the murder and rape of Justine Vayrac. Lucas Larivée’s lawyer announced during a press conference on Tuesday the reasons why his client is appealing after being sentenced by the Assize Court of Corrèze to 30 years in prison and a 20-year security sentence on March 21. Among the grievances cited by the lawyer of the young man found guilty of the murder and rape of Justine Vayrac is the lack of consideration for extenuating circumstances, given the length of the sentence. “Personality investigation, psychological report, psychiatric report… All these elements revealed the true personality of Lucas,” defended lawyer Michel Labrousse, representing Lucas Larivée.
Lucas Larivée decided, just hours before the deadline of ten days, to appeal his conviction. His lawyer argues that the court did not adequately address the evidence related to his client’s personality. Larivée’s true personality, according to him, is that of an ordinary person and notably not a psychopath. The family of the victim feels that the reopening of the case is another ordeal to endure, as they seek closure and the truth about what happened. They will have to return to court to express the suffering they have endured throughout the legal process.
