Donald Trump strongly criticized France on Tuesday, March 31, accusing it of “lack of cooperation” after banning military aircraft linked to the Iranian conflict from flying over its airspace. As tensions between Paris and Washington escalate, the UN also expresses concern about a possible annexation of South Lebanon by Israel.
The criticism from Trump was harsh, stating that France had been “very uncooperative” in the war against Iran, reigniting tensions between Paris and Washington as conflicts in the Middle East intensify, especially on the Lebanese front.
Paris responded to Trump’s accusations by confirming that France did not authorize planes destined for Israel, carrying military equipment, to fly over its territory. The French presidency explained that France has maintained its position since the beginning of the conflict on February 28. Contrary to Spain closing its airspace to American planes on Monday, France allows military aircraft to fly over its territory with prior authorization, following international rules.
The situation with Israel is also influenced, with the Israeli government announcing a halt to its imports of French military equipment in alignment with its American ally.
The next few days will be crucial for the outcome of the conflict in Iran, with warnings from US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and President Donald Trump indicating a possible escalation if no agreement is reached.
Meanwhile, in Iraq, American journalist Shelly Kittleson was abducted by a pro-Iranian group, causing concern and further complications in the region.
Regarding Lebanon, there are fears of a new “occupied territory” being created similar to Israeli zones in Gaza. The UN Deputy Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs expressed concern about a possible takeover in southern Lebanon, as incidents and tensions continue to rise in the region.
