The Israeli army declared on Tuesday that it is ready to continue the war with Iran for several weeks, just hours after statements from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claiming that Israel had achieved more than half of its military objectives against the Islamic Republic.
“The halfway point is clearly behind us. But I don’t want to set a timeline,” the Israeli executive leader said during an interview with the conservative American channel Newsmax, indicating that he was speaking “in terms of missions, not necessarily in terms of duration.”
When asked about the Israeli army’s position, its international spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Nadav Shoshani, stated that the continuation of operations depended on the decisions of political leaders.
“We are ready to continue our operations in the weeks to come,” he assured during an online press briefing. “We have the targets for it, the ammunition for it, the manpower for it. And it’s up to the leaders to decide.”
The Middle East has been plunged into a war since February 28 by joint strikes from the United States and Israel against Iran, to which Tehran has responded with missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and several countries in the region.
President Donald Trump initially estimated the duration of the military operations to be between four and six weeks.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated on Monday that the war would last “weeks” rather than “months,” expressing optimism about the possibility of working with elements within the Iranian government.
