Since his disappearance, recurring information or testimonies claiming to have found the fugitive in various places have surfaced, without ever being verified.
The public prosecutor’s office in Nantes indicated on Thursday that they had not been informed of the dissemination this week of a call at least by a Texan sheriff concerning Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès, wanted since 2011 for the murder of his family. The case has sparked many fantasies and has resulted in hundreds of reports worldwide.
Since his disappearance, information or testimonies claiming to have found the fugitive in various places have emerged recurrently, without ever being verified. “Neither the investigating judge in charge of the case, nor myself, nor the investigators who have been working on it since the beginning have been informed of this call by a Texan police service,” said the public prosecutor of Nantes, Antoine Leroy.
Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès has possibly been seen in 2020. The Sheriff’s Office of Brewster County, Texas, posted on its Facebook page a call at least accompanied by several photos of Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès. He “has possibly been seen in 2020” in the county, accompanied by “a black Labrador,” the sheriff’s office said, inviting anyone who recognizes him or has information about him to contact them.
Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès is suspected of murdering his wife and four children in April 2011, whose bodies were found in Nantes under the terrace of the family home. He has never been found, and the investigation has not determined whether he was dead or on the run. In 2024, the Nantes prosecutor’s office stated that over 1750 reports concerning him had been received and investigated, in France and abroad.
