Donald Trump continues to place his pawns in Latin America and has found with Costa Rica a loyal and dedicated ally in the region. On Monday, March 21, the United States signed a protocol with San Jose allowing them to deport up to 25 migrants from third countries to the Central American country each week, according to the news site El Observador.

“This is a collaboration protocol so that Costa Rica once again acts as an ally of the United States on important issues for our hemisphere. It is a voluntary agreement: we will be able to refuse those we do not want, not accept certain nationalities,” explained President Rodrigo Chaves, as reported by The New York Times.

The protocol was signed during the visit to the Central American country by the special envoy of the Americas Shield coalition, former Minister of Internal Security Kristi Noem, who was behind ICE operations in Minneapolis, the American immigration police. This “coalition,” formalized during a meeting in Miami on March 11, brings together a dozen Latin American heads of state ready to engage militarily alongside the United States in combating drug trafficking networks on the continent. Among them is Costa Rica.
