Iran denies any discussion with US

To negotiate, you need two. And in any negotiation, you generally start by asking for a lot, often too much. Since Monday, March 23, Iran had denied any discussion with the United States. The Iranian state television asserted on Wednesday, March 25, that the American peace proposal had been rejected by the regime. Both the US and Iran accuse each other of asking for too much. A true sequence of diplomatic fiction.

Regarding the American side, Donald Trump proposes a pure and simple surrender of Iranian power, which should give up everything, including its nuclear program. The American plan includes zero uranium enrichment, dismantling of the Natanz, Fordo, and Ispahan sites. Tehran should abandon its regional allies like Hezbollah and limit its ballistic program in terms of both range and quantity. In exchange, Iran would receive the lifting of sanctions, but they could be reimposed in case of non-compliance.

Iran demands control of the Strait of Hormuz

The Iranians, on their part, raise the stakes and also set their conditions, including a general ceasefire that must cover all fronts, including Lebanon. An end to the assassinations of power figures, compensation for war damages, and recognition of Iranian sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz, which is currently controlled by the Revolutionary Guards.

In reality, the evolution of the military situation will not only dictate the diplomatic tempo but also the content of any peace negotiations. At this point, nothing is certain. The US spokesperson stated on Wednesday that the American president is prepared to “unleash hell” on Iran if no agreement is reached.
