The Washington, D.C., police are searching for suspects after shots injured a park police officer who was in a plainclothes police vehicle, authorities announced on Monday, March 23.
The officers in the unmarked vehicle were conducting an investigation in southeast Washington when they were “ambushed by at least two armed men” in the evening, said U.S. Park Police Chief Scott Brecht. He did not specify the nature of the officers’ investigation.
The officer was shot in the shoulder
According to information from the Associated Press, the officer, who is “seriously injured,” was shot in the shoulder. He was airlifted to a hospital, said Scott Brecht, emphasizing that the officer’s life was not in danger.
Interim chief of the city police, Jeff Carroll, stated that there was “no indication” that the police had returned fire.
