According to a statement from the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization, “no leakage of radioactive materials has been reported” in the area of the nuclear complex located in the center of the country.
The United States and Israel conducted strikes on the Iranian Natanz nuclear complex on Saturday, March 21, in the center of the country, according to a statement from the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization released by the Tasnim news agency.
“Following the criminal attacks carried out by the United States and the usurping Zionist regime against our country, the Natanz enrichment complex was targeted this morning,” declared the Iranian organization. It added that “no leakage of radioactive materials has been reported” in the area.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) stated on its X account that it had been “informed by Iran that the Natanz nuclear site had been attacked” on Saturday and is currently “examining this information.” Rafael Grossi, the Director-General of the Agency, also “reiterated his call for military restraint to avoid any risk of a nuclear accident.”
As the main Iranian uranium enrichment site located approximately 220 kilometers southeast of the capital, Tehran, the Natanz site had already been targeted in the first week of the conflict, and several buildings were damaged, according to satellite images. Following this strike, the IAEA stated that “no radiological consequences” were expected.
A site previously targeted by strikes in 2025
In June 2025, this nuclear complex had already been targeted by Israeli and American strikes during the Twelve-Day War. The nuclear facilities in Fordo and Isfahan were also targeted by bombings at that time.
By launching the offensive against Iran at the end of February, Donald Trump had among the objectives the desire to eliminate the Iranian nuclear threat, with Western countries suspecting the Islamic Republic of seeking to acquire atomic weapons, which it denies.
Three weeks after the start of the war, the American president mentioned on Friday the prospect of an end to the conflict. “We are on the verge of achieving our objectives,” he said on his Truth Social network, adding that he was considering “gradually reducing” American military efforts against “the terrorist regime of Iran.”
