Iran accused the United States and Israel on Saturday, March 21, of striking the Natanz nuclear site as the conflict in the Middle East enters its fourth week of war. “Following the criminal attacks carried out by the United States and the usurping Zionist regime [Israel] against our country, the Natanz enrichment complex was targeted [Saturday] morning,” said the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization, specifying that “no leakage of radioactive materials has been reported” in the area. The Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (AIEA), Rafael Grossi, was “informed by Iran” about this strike and called “for military restraint to avoid any risk of a nuclear accident”.

The aim of eliminating the Iranian nuclear threat has been a goal pursued by US President Donald Trump since the beginning of the offensive on February 28. The Israeli army, for its part, said it “was not aware of any strike” on Natanz. Iran had already accused the United States and Israel of striking this site in early March, at the beginning of the conflict. The site had also been targeted in June 2025 during the 12-day war initiated by Israel.

Western countries suspect the Islamic Republic of seeking to acquire atomic weapons, a claim that Iran denies. Earlier, from Friday to Saturday night, Israeli strikes targeted several neighborhoods of Tehran and its outskirts, as well as the major city of Isfahan in the center of the country. Attacks in the capital confirmed by the Israeli army, which said it targeted “regime objectives”.
