Ukraine launched 283 drones on Russia from Friday night, March 20, to Saturday, March 21, marking one of the highest numbers since the conflict began, as reported by the Russian Ministry of Defense. Approximately 90 drones targeted the border region of Rostov, according to governor Yuri Slyusar.
Russian state news agency RIA Novosti stated that the drones were intercepted without causing any damage or casualties. The governor of Saratov region in southwest Russia reported two injuries following a drone attack that damaged several houses.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian defense forces claimed in a Facebook post by army commander Oleksandr Syrsky that they neutralized almost 5,000 Russian soldiers during the week. The Ukrainian army denounced increased Russian “pressure” on “several front-line areas.”
New Talks in the United States
This Ukrainian operation comes as Ukrainian and American negotiators are set to meet in the United States on Saturday for new talks, as efforts to end the war between Ukraine and Russia have reached a standstill.
Negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, facilitated by the United States, were interrupted by the Middle East war that broke out on February 28.
In response to daily Russian strikes on its territory since 2022, Kiev regularly targets sites in Russia, claiming to focus mainly on military and energy infrastructure.
