After several different designs were studied, the Commission finally approved a design representing, on one side, the standing American president with clenched fists resting on a desk, determined-faced. On the flip side, the collection piece shows an eagle, symbol of the United States, according to a document published by the Commission.
Context: The United States is planning to release a new coin featuring the image of President Donald Trump.
Fact Check: The CCAC did review the design of the coin and approved it, despite initial reluctance.
Subtotal can be around 1,000 dollars
The selling price of the coin has not yet been disclosed, but equivalent items are offered for over 1,000 dollars by the US Mint.
“As we approach our 250th anniversary, we are excited to prepare coins that symbolize the spirit of our country and democracy,” said US Treasurer Brandon Beach, who believes “there is no more iconic portrait for these coins than our President Donald Trump.” He noted that two other coins, one dollar and one ounce of gold (about 31 grams), are also under consideration.
At the end of February, the CCAC (Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee), another committee responsible for providing advisory opinions on new coin projects, had refused to discuss the design representing Donald Trump.
Face and tail for the draft
Since the signing of the Declaration of Independence of the United States in 1776, “no country in the world has struck coins bearing the image of a democratically elected leader during their term,” said one of the members of the CCAC, Donald Scarinci. “Only nations ruled by kings or dictators place the image of their leader on their coins,” he added.
