In the past 10 years, this part of the country has not experienced such a phenomenon and is facing an exceptional situation, even during the winter.

A massive snowstorm is approaching New York and the northeast of the United States. More than 40 million people are affected by this weather phenomenon, leading to the shutdown of the Big Apple, where travel is prohibited until noon (6 p.m. Paris time), and schools are closed.

“The city has not seen a storm of this magnitude in the last decade,” warned Mayor Zohran Mamdani as the disturbance caused thousands of flight cancellations and significant power outages. The governors of seven states (Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island) have declared a state of emergency, with traffic bans in effect since Sunday afternoon. Up to 70 cm of snow is expected, along with a true blizzard as icy winds gust up to 80 km/h.

This is the second major winter storm that Democratic mayor of New York has had to manage since taking office in early January. At the end of January, a prolonged cold spell resulted in at least 18 deaths in the city, most due to hypothermia. Authorities had recorded at least a hundred deaths across the country.
