Wizz Air UK has announced its intention to operate charter flights between the UK and the United States for the FIFA World Cup 2026.
The low-cost airline stated that it has “officially received the necessary permits” to serve the United States.
It hopes to offer tailor-made charter flights to European football teams and their supporters traveling to the tournament in June and July, as well as to tour operators organizing group trips to the United States.
Wizz Air UK specified that this new authorization “represents a major milestone and crowns months of preparation, regulatory coordination, and operational planning.”
“It is a day of great pride and excitement for our entire company,” said Yvonne Moynihan, CEO of Wizz Air UK. “Obtaining the authorization to operate between the UK and the United States is a major step for our company.”
The company expects a strong interest from football teams participating in the World Cup. “This opens the way to exceptional opportunities, especially for European football teams and supporters crossing the Atlantic this summer,” added Moynihan.
“We are ready to offer top-notch charter experiences and bring fans closer to the action in the United States.”
In addition to football-related travel, the company’s charter services will also be available to corporate groups, tour operators, sports organizations, and individual travelers looking for convenient transatlantic connections.
However, the low-cost carrier clarified that it has “no intention or plan to launch regular commercial flights to the United States.” Charter flight requests for the summer are now open.
