In an interview with La Tribune Dimanche on March 8, Lulu Gainsbourg reflected on his journey in the music industry. Far from being launched without experience in music, the 40-year-old artist has followed a prestigious path!

When Serge Gainsbourg passed away in 1991, his youngest son Lucien (known as Lulu Gainsbourg) was only five years old. Although the late artist barely knew his youngest child, he did pass on his passion for music. It is said that when the singer passed away, his young son spontaneously sat at the piano to honor his memory. “My mother told me that the day he died, I spontaneously sat at the piano. I was only 5 years old, and in one afternoon, I remembered the tunes he often played for me, like Popeye or The Three Little Pigs,” recalled the artist on Sunday, March 8, with La Tribune Dimanche.

During the same interview, Lulu Gainsbourg also delved into his journey in the music industry. Far from simply riding on the coattails of his father’s career and fame, the 40-year-old artist was educated at very reputable schools. Specifically, “the Conservatoire de Paris from the age of 7 and then the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston,” revealed the journal. Not to mention his numerous compositions that he has created “for other artists including Marc Lavoine.” A journey that is far from ordinary!

Lulu Gainsbourg opens up about the (sometimes burdensome) image of his father

In the same interview, Lulu Gainsbourg (who will soon be appearing on the set of Le Grand Échiquier to pay tribute to his father) also spoke about the legacy left by the late artist on his life. Is the legacy left by his father sometimes burdensome in daily life? “It depends on the moments, it’s like the weather: sometimes it’s nice and sometimes not,” he revealed. Before going into details: “Of course, I am happy that he is so honored. He spent his life in the studio and writing for others, he was a hard worker […] But being his son is also a heavy burden to bear. Sometimes, it is very heavy on the shoulders and morale.” And to conclude on a positive note: “Today, little Lulu is 40 years old! I am moving forward as best as I can. I have struggled to find my own identity, and, in fact, I am still searching for it internally. But today, I am at peace with this lineage. Otherwise, I would not be in this profession.”
