Daniel Mermet and Olivier Azam, the directors of the documentary “Howard Zinn, une histoire populaire américaine 2”, were present on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at the family cinema, to present the complementary sequel, 10 years after the first part.
The documentary traces the life of Howard Zinn, explaining how he, through a decryption of the popular history of the United States, revealed to Americans a part of their past, long ignored by themselves. It sheds light on the American political scientist’s desire to give a place in American history to unheard minorities, Native Americans, blacks, slaves, deserters, textile workers, unionists, and others.
“Given the current geopolitical situation and the role of the United States in it, our film highlights the work of Howard Zinn, who suddenly appears as a counterbalance to the Trump era. Criticizing the choices of the US president is one thing, but showing and explaining, through history, the danger they represent is just as important. However, we must not succumb to pessimism, we must maintain hope for better times,” reassured Daniel Mermet. The screening was followed by a rich exchange with the audience.
