In a telephone interview with CNN on Friday, Donald Trump asserted that the Cuban regime was on the brink of “falling.” The American president mentioned the idea of sending his Secretary of State Marco Rubio to negotiate with Havana, while emphasizing that the current priority of his administration remains the ongoing war with Iran.
Donald Trump continues his grand geopolitical upheaval. After capturing Venezuelan president and dictator Nicolas Maduro, after eliminating the Iranian Supreme Leader, the American president wants to bring down the Cuban government.
During a phone interview on Friday morning with CNN, as he was touting the military successes of his second term, Donald Trump made a revelation about Cuba: “Cuba will fall very soon.” The American president stated that the Cuban regime is actively seeking to negotiate. “They want to make such a strong deal,” he said, before announcing that he would entrust the matter to his Secretary of State Marco Rubio. “I’m going to have Marco look into it and we’ll see how it goes.”
Trump specified that he has been following the situation for fifty years and that it is “thanks to him” that things have evolved. However, he indicated that Iran remains the immediate priority, with Cuba coming later on the agenda of his administration.
The day before, on Thursday, he had expressed similar sentiments from the White House, stating that it was only a matter of time before Cuban-Americans could return to their country. Speaking to Rubio, he added: “Your next dossier is this special Cuba. It’s waiting. But he’s saying: let’s finish this one first.”
