“I could, I’m thinking about it.” Kamala Harris, former vice president of the United States and unsuccessful candidate for the White House against Donald Trump in 2024, stated on Friday, April 10 that she is considering running again for the presidency in 2028.

“Are you going to run again in 2028?”, she was asked by Reverend Al Sharpton, a prominent civil rights figure, during a forum for his organization National Action Network in New York. “Listen, I could,” responded the Democrat on stage, to applause from the audience.

The first woman and first black person to reach the vice presidency in U.S. history, Kamala Harris has been vague about her political future since her defeat in 2024. The former California senator, currently without any elected office, has been touring the United States since last year to talk about her book 107 Days, the duration of her hastily launched campaign after Joe Biden’s withdrawal on July 21, 2024 – in which she notably settles scores with the former Democratic president and his inner circle.

Almost two years before the first primaries for the Democratic nomination, some figures are starting to move further left. Among them, the current governor of California, Gavin Newsom, is not hiding his presidential ambitions, as well as Pete Buttigieg, former Transportation secretary under Biden and former contender for the nomination in 2020. New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a figure of the American left, could also join the race, as well as former astronaut and current Arizona senator, Mark Kelly.
